Our hospital has periodontology specialists. Periodontology deals with the diseases of the gums and the tissues supporting the teeth.

Tartar
Tartar is a hard deposit formed when calcium and phosphate ions in saliva settle on the tooth surfaces over a long period. To prevent it, good oral hygiene is essential and bacterial plaque must be removed effectively.
Periodontal Disease
Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that destroys the tissues supporting the teeth, including the periodontal ligament and the jaw bone. Its main cause is bacterial plaque, which can be treated by mechanical cleaning; systemic, genetic and environmental factors also play a role.
The first sign is usually bleeding gums. The gums become red, swollen and shiny; bad breath, itching of the gums and tooth sensitivity may also occur. The disease often progresses without causing any complaints.
Treatment
The main aim of periodontal treatment is to keep the teeth in the mouth. Depending on the type of disease, treatment includes oral hygiene training, scaling, root surface planing in advanced cases and mucogingival surgery.
