1. What is root canal treatment?
It is a treatment that aims to save the tooth when its nerve tissue (pulp) is infected or damaged.
2. Is root canal treatment painful?
No. It is performed painlessly under local anaesthesia; the patient does not feel discomfort during treatment.
3. How many visits does the treatment take?
Usually 1–3 visits. Depending on the infection, it may take up to 4–5 visits.
4. What should I pay attention to after treatment?
Do not chew hard foods with the treated tooth
Take care of your oral hygiene
Use the medicines prescribed by your dentist
Attend your appointments regularly
5. How long does a treated tooth last?
With correctly performed treatment and an appropriate crown, it can be used for a lifetime. Regular check-ups are necessary.
6. What if the treatment fails?
Re-treatment or surgical endodontics (apicectomy) may be performed.
7. Is pain after treatment normal?
Mild pain for 2–3 days is normal. In case of severe pain or swelling, contact your dentist immediately.
8. What is microscope-assisted treatment?
It is an advanced method that shows the inner structure of the tooth at high magnification and increases the success of treatment.
9. Can root canal treatment be done on every tooth?
No. It is not performed on severely damaged teeth that cannot be saved.
10. Does the tooth change colour after root canal treatment?
Slight discolouration may occur in some cases. Whitening or a crown can then be applied.
11. How long does one session take?
Usually 30–90 minutes, depending on the condition of the tooth and the number of canals.
12. Does the tooth need a crown after treatment?
Yes, a crown is usually recommended to protect the treated tooth.
