1. What is orthodontics?
The branch of dentistry that corrects crowded teeth and jaw irregularities.

For jaw problems at 7–12 years of age; for dental problems only, from the age of 12.
3. Is orthodontic treatment provided for adults?
At our hospital, orthodontic treatment is provided for patients up to the age of 18.
4. How long does the treatment take?
On average 1.5–2 years; it may vary between 6 months and 3 years depending on the case.
5. Is treatment with clear aligners possible?
Yes, in suitable cases treatment with clear aligners can be carried out.
6. Are braces painful?
Mild pain may occur for 2–3 days after the braces are fitted and after each check-up. This is normal.
7. How should I eat while wearing braces?
Avoid hard and sticky foods
Cut food into small pieces
Avoid acidic drinks
8. How are braces cleaned?
Use special orthodontic toothbrushes
Use dental floss and interdental brushes
Have regular professional cleaning
9. What is a retainer?
A fixed or removable appliance used after treatment to prevent the teeth from moving back.
10. How long is a retainer worn?
It may need to be worn for at least as long as the treatment, or longer.
11. Does orthodontic treatment damage the teeth?
No, when carried out by specialists. However, poor cleaning increases the risk of caries.
12. Are extractions needed for orthodontic treatment?
Extractions may be needed in some cases; this is decided by the dentist after examination.
13. Can I play sports during treatment?
Yes, but a special mouthguard should be used for contact sports.
14. How often are braces checked?
Usually every 4–6 weeks.
15. Can the teeth move back after treatment?
If retainers are not used regularly, the teeth may move back to their former positions.
